Polarising Lenses
What Are Polarising Lenses?
Polarized lenses reduce glare from reflective
surfaces such as the surface of the sea or a wet road. Lenses that
are polarized have a very thin polarizing film which is sandwiched
in the lens.
Don't All Tinted Lenses Do This?
No, a tint, no matter how dark will only cut out direct sunlight.
In direct sunlight the light rays travel vertically. However, when
this light is reflected off a shiny surface the rays change direction
and become horizontal. These horizontal rays enter the eye at such
an angle that they cause glare.
How Does A Polarising Lens Work?
A polarising filter acts a bit like a vertical Venetian blind. It
has small crystals that are all lined up so that they let through
only vertical light rays. The glare causing horizontal rays are thus
eliminated.
Other Benefits of Polarised Lenses
As well as being more comfortable, polarized lenses by cutting out
the glare:
Increase contrast, giving clearer sharper vision.
Allows the natural colour of your surroundings to be more visible,
enhancing colour perception. |
