Vision Screening
Vision Screening In Schools
Accredited research shows that up to 20% of children have an undiagnosed vision problem.
Regular eye examinations in children are essential in ensuring that correct visual development is taking place. A child will often not complain of any difficulty, especially if only one eye is affected. If a child needs spectacles or has a squint and this is not treated before the age of 7-8, they may have permanently reduced vision (amblyopia).
Children with undiagnosed eye problems are more likely to have difficulties with learning at school.
At The Eye Academy, we work with local schools and bring vision screening to the convenience of the classroom. Using a computerised program, our trained clinical assistants will screen for all major visual problems. The tests include:
- Distance vision
- A test for long sightedness
- Colour vision
- Eye muscle co-ordination
- Ability to use the eyes together
Using a variety of letters or pictures, we can test the vision of children of all ages.

Vision screening takes approximately 5 minutes and is a fun and enjoyable for children. Following screening, parents and teachers are provided with a report outlining any problems and recommendations for the next steps to take.
Working closely with parents and teachers, we will monitor progress at regular intervals to ensure that we give every child the ability to see clearly and learn effectively.
